What can we tell you! It could be a long story but we are sure you will not have the time to read a missive the size of a book. So let’s keep it short. The charity was started in January 1997 by Win Kelly and Dulcie Jobson in response to escalating problems in the Coquetdale area, caused by cats and kittens being brought from nearby urban area’s and abandoned. Coquetdale is a sparsely populated rural area and raising enough funds to meet the demands on the charity has always been a problem indeed we have never been able to meet all the requests for help we receive. Our funds come from two sources money raised from a stall we take to the local country fairs and donations from our supporters. In January 97 Win Kelly was given five pounds in appreciation of some help she gave sorting out a cat problem and she used it to start the charity. It is amazing what that five pounds has grown into, Wins garden shed was converted to house cats and a large Dog Kennel belonging to Dulcie to a suitable dwelling and for cats. We were then fortunate to get a small piece of land in order to start a shelter. It was very rough land and volunteers cleared it by hand and a concrete base was laid, when sufficient funds had been put aside three purpose built double the units to house cats was built and since then we have added and another three followed by two units are designed for kittens. So at present we have eight double units at the shelter, accommodation and storage for food, litter and bedding is at present catered for by an old caravan.
